How to Ace Your College Search: 5 Tips from A College Student

It's application season and seniors everywhere are filling out applications, visiting schools and doing interviews. Below I will highlight some of my advice for finding YOUR school (hopefully Purdue).

Go toward a school that lets you do what you love. 
Don't just apply to a school for its "name". Figure out your interests and apply to schools that have programs, clubs or other resources to help you be your best. For me, the WIEP program is one of the many reasons Purdue engineering stood out to me.  

Be passionate about your college essays. 
As much as a pain the supplemental essays are to do, they really do matter. This is the only time you get to show your true colors, so write about something you love (and it will be easier to write, too). 

Ask for help. 
There are many resources to make your essays and other parts of your application the best that it can be. Your best bets would be your English teachers and college counselors, although other students and teachers could be good proofreaders too. 

Research, research, research.
 A large part of applying to college is  researching statistics of acceptance, programs and majors, cost and student life. Looking up important facts about schools can really help narrow down your list and find the schools that are the right fit. 

Have an open mind. 
Along the way, you might find schools that you really like but might not get in to. Or maybe you decide to apply later to a school you just discovered. Either way, always have an open mind and make your decision based on your own thoughts, as you are the one that is going to live there! For me, Purdue wasn't even on my "starting list" and I didn't apply to Purdue until January. But after visiting I found it was the perfect school for me because it has everything I was searching for in a school.

Jenn and her friends after the Thankgiving dinner Food is an integral part of our day. For some people, the very first thing they do in the morning is eat breakfast. I personally prefer my cup of coffee to a stack of waffles. Top 10 Extracurriculars Purdue Students Want You to Join Outside of Engineering

1. Purdue University Dance Marathon (PUDM):  The biggest student-run organization on campus! You can join as a dancer, where you get to fundraise leading up to the 18-hour long event or be even more involved and join a committee!
