Finding your Perfect Home at Purdue

Having finished all of your applications, it’s time for the fun part of transitioning to college, choosing your dorm! Choosing where you want to live can be a big decision and WE Link is here to help guide you to your perfect freshman home within one of our many learning communities. Here are my top reasons for joining a learning community

Me in my perfect home at Purdue!
Students who share your same passions

Purdue learning communities offer you the chance to live on the same floor as countless people with your same passions. Whether you love solving real-world problems or helping to save the environment, there is a place for you. But even if you are hesitant about living on a floor with your learning community, there are options for communities that hold weekly meetings instead of living together.

Help on homework and projects

Living in one of Purdue’s learning communities offers you a huge network of support as you start your exciting journey into engineering. Engineering can seem like a lot at times, but having help only a door knock away can greatly help you improve your academics and manage your work. Purdue research even shows students in a learning community have better grades than their classmates who are not.

Friends inside and outside of class

By being a part of a Purdue learning community, you will be able to network with fellow engineers on your floor and have a few familiar faces within your classes. Purdue even guarantees that you will have at least two to three classes with girls on your floor, meaning you will get to know them pretty well.

Overall, being a part of a learning community only added to my success and well-being in my first year at Purdue and I am so glad that I decided to join one as a freshmen!

Check out some of Purdue’s biggest learning communities and feel free to learn more below.

Women in Engineering Learning Community- The women in engineering learning community helps connect you with various girls in your classes and provides you with advice on how to ace your first year! This learning community is now housed in the new Meredith South Hall. Plus, your floor assistant will be an upperclassman in engineering to help answer any questions you may have throughout the year.  Not bias, but this one's my favorite :)

EPICS- The EPICS learning community helps you get involved in the local community by working with companies and organizations to help solve real life problems. In addition, EPICS provides a formal mentoring experience both in and out of the classroom. This learning community has the optional residential component of living in Shreve hall surrounded by other EPICS students. These are the students who you will likely be working with in the courses associated with the EPICS learning community like "ENGR 13300 - Transforming Ideas to Innovation, EPICS".

The Data Mine-  Students in the Data Mine learning community have the amazing opportunity of working in multidisciplinary teams of students to engage in research-based projects. Specifically, the projects are catered towards students with interest in the Data Sciences. First year students must reside in Hillenbrand Hall and will participate in weekly dinners and social gatherings with their fellow learning community participants.

While those are some of the more popular learning communities to choose from, there are still countless other learning communities to fit your specific passions and interested. You can find more information about all of those learning communities here
