Why I Chose My Discipline...

Electrical Engineering (ECE) “If you like math and physics, especially physics that we cannot physically observe like particle physics, electricity, and magnetism, then EE may be perfect for you. EE is very versatile as it applies to almost everything we use nowadays. Even though EE as a major is very broad, you are able to choose an area you’d like to focus on. Personally, since electricity is so crucial in our daily lives, I’d like to choose an area that focuses on developing more efficient ways to conserve, transport, and produce electricity.” –Carol Lo (freshman) https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECE Chemical Engineering (ChE) “In high school, I was a three sport athlete. Being an athlete means you have to have good nutrition to get you through games and practices. As my sports intensified, I found myself going in depth on what types of nutrients and chemicals make up food. That is when I realized I wanted to become a chemical engineer. I wanted to use my passion o

Getting Involved at Purdue

If you are looking to take the extra step in college and get involved, Purdue is the perfect place. With over 1000 student organizations, Purdue has any and every interest that you could ever imagine. At the beginning of the year during Boiler Gold Rush , the new student orientation program, there is an event called the "Be Involved Fair" where all the clubs fill the memorial mall, making it easy for new students to talk to each club about what they are about and sign up for their email list. Flyers are also frequently posted all around campus about club callouts, so if you find something interesting- go! You never know what you will get out of it.              There are groups centered around your major, which can be helpful for networking with recruiters and seeking advice from your peers.  Getting involved with Society of Women Engineers and the Women in Engineering Program has really made me enjoy engineering more than I would ever expect, as I wa
