Why WiE Love Purdue Sports

All About Purdue Sports:

It may be early in the season now, but Mackey Arena always feels like the playoffs. The best arena in college basketball has recorded sound levels as high as 124 decibels and is always electric. Now in my fourth year at Purdue, some of my favorite memories at Purdue take place in Mackey Arena. From dancing on the jumbotron during our overtime win over Northwestern sophomore year, to Zach Edey’s first career 3-pointer against our rival Indiana University (IU), the student section at Mackey Arena is my happy place! As a member of the Paint Crew, the official student section for Purdue men’s basketball, I have attended just about every home basketball game since my sophomore year, and I’ve loved every minute of it. Mackey arena is an exhilarating environment, whether it’s a men's or women's basketball game!

With a seating capacity of just under 15,000, Mackey isn’t just home to basketball. In the past couple of years, Mackey has also hosted Purdue’s volleyball team for several matches, including the rivalry matchup against IU. Whether they’re playing in Mackey or their home of Holloway gymnasium, Purdue volleyball never fails to disappoint. The Block Party, the official student section of Purdue volleyball, is loud and always involved in the game, with a cheer for every player as they serve!

Of course, we can’t forget about football. Football games are an all-day event and are some of the most fun days of the year. The day typically starts with a tailgate, which can be found all over campus. Tailgates are hosted by many organizations at Purdue, as well as by many fans. Slayter Hill is one of the best tailgate spots, where the marching band plays for all of the tailgaters before gametime. Having some delicious tailgate food (it just tastes better on gamedays, I can’t explain it) and hanging out with friends and family is a great way to start off the weekend! Obviously, we also love Ross-Ade Stadium, where our beloved Boilermakers play. The Ross-Ade Brigade, the official student section of Purdue football, is always ready for gameday and leads chants and celebrations throughout the game. I also love the performance by the Purdue All-American Marching Band! Win or lose, football gamedays on campus are always so much fun!

There are all kinds of sports at Purdue, not just basketball and football. Baseball, soccer, and many more are super fun events to attend on campus. Purdue students can attend any soccer, cross country, swimming & diving, wrestling, track & field, golf, softball and baseball regular season events for free just by showing their Purdue ID!

How to get tickets:

There are many opportunities to purchase tickets to Purdue sporting events, like the student Boarding Pass, which provides season tickets to football games, as well as opportunities to claim basketball tickets, volleyball tickets, and more! By purchasing a Boarding Pass, you also get the opportunity to purchase membership to the official student sections, such as Ross-Ade Brigade, Paint Crew, Block Party, and the KG Unit. With the Boarding Pass, you get access to all kinds of sporting events for the year with one upfront cost. Boarding passes are sold to full-time Purdue students, but unfortunately, they can sell out. However, Purdue does offer an alternative for incoming students if Boarding passes happen to sell out before they can purchase them. The Passport provides tickets to a select number of incoming students for two home football games, one volleyball game played in Mackey Arena, any women’s basketball game, and the opportunity to claim tickets to men’s basketball games over Thanksgiving or winter break. Even if you don’t get a Boarding Pass or Passport, there are still other options for getting tickets, such as transferring tickets between students and purchasing single-game tickets for football and women’s basketball.

Finally, Purdue rewards passionate fans! Purdue basketball tickets are in high demand, so it’s no surprise that getting season tickets by being a member of the Paint Crew is highly sought after. To earn a spot in the Paint Crew, students need to get a Golden Ticket, or the opportunity to purchase a Boarding Pass (and a Paint Crew membership along with it) a week early. A Golden Ticket can be earned through a number of ways, the most popular being attending specific women’s basketball games. There are also other ways, like being a top Paint Crew participant or winning raffles at certain basketball games.

Overall, there are so many ways to get involved in Purdue sports!
