Local Eats Near Purdue
Whether you’re touring for the first time, having family visit, or just feeling an itch to try something new, Purdue has dozens of restaurants for every budget and taste!
Triple XXX Family Restaurant
Triple XXX is a West Lafayette staple. The restaurant has been featured on Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” twice and is an iconic part of Boilermaker history. Triple XXX is known for its iconic dishes named after famous Purdue athletes. The Ashley Burkhardt meal (the first female athlete on the menu) contains chicken tenders sandwiched between two biscuits with a side of sweet potato fries. The Ryan Kerrican is an entire half pound of meat, topped with cheese chili, and burger fixings. For the more adventurous eaters, the iconic Dwayne Purvis burger includes the basic quarter pound burger with a schmear of peanut butter. And, you can’t forget Triple XXX’s famous root beer, which uses the same recipe from 1895 and comes in a giant mug.The Bryant
For the fancier diners (or students with family members in town), the Bryant is an upscale restaurant with steaks, sandwiches, and enormous milkshakes. The Bryant is owned by West Lafayette locals and named after the famous Morris Bryant restaurant. It is located on the North side of West Lafayette, near the Walmart and the Celery Bog. One of the most iconic dishes is the Jumbo Pretzel, which is a buttery, soft pretzel served on a hook with cheese.Sushi Don
Sushi Don is a Japanese restaurant with locations in both Lafayette and West Lafayette. They do sushi rolls, poke, and Korean BBQ wings. The best time to go is during lunch for a peaceful time, or on nights when they have their half off special for signature rolls. Their most popular roll is the Bond Girl Roll (comes with Spicy Crab, shrimp, and avocado) and, my personal favorite, the Lion King Roll (deep fried Philadelphia roll with spicy mayo).Pizza Uncommon
This pizza place was a recommendation from my Calculus II professor my freshman year, and it is my favorite pizza place in the area. Pizza Uncommon is located on State St and serves both specialty pizzas and house-made gelato. Their motto is “We do pizza uncommonly good” and they speak nothing but the truth. Their pizzas have a thin, crispy crust and are topped with fresh ingredients. The Salted Burrata Pizza is a big hit (topped with burrata, specialty salt, and olive oil) and the Fig and Prosciutto Pizza is perfect for adventurous eaters (topped with fig, prosciutto, and arugula). They also cater to allergies and different diets, so vegetarian, dairy free and gluten free options are available!KPOT Korean BBQ & Hot Pot
If you are a fan of Hot Pot or Korean BBQ, KPOT is the best place in the Purdue area for you! KPOT is a national chain that recently opened a spot in the Lafayette area. They are open for lunch and dinner, and you can choose between Hot Pot, Korean BBQ, or both. Dine-in comes with unlimited broths and items to cook within a two hour time limit, along with an appetizer bar and lots of sauces. KPOT is also vegetarian and vegan friendly!
Silver Dipper
Silver Dipper is arguably the best ice cream spot in West Lafayette. There are two locations in the area, and one is within walking distance of Purdue (on the intersection of State St and River Rd)! They carry over 50 flavors, along with seasonal, allergy friendly, and sugar free options, so there is something for everyone. My personal favorite flavors are the Zoreo and Zanzimint, which use a rich, dark chocolate ice cream as the base. Other favorite flavors include the Fat Elvis (banana, peanut butter, and chocolate chips), Blue Moon (tastes like Froot Loops!), and Munchie Madness (cake batter, caramel, Oreos, M&M’s, and peanut butter cups). They also sell memorabilia, stickers, and a whole lot of toy cars in the store!Azzip Pizza
Founded by a Purdue alum in the Entrepreneurship program, Azzip Pizza is an Indiana chain where you customize your own personal pizza! You first choose your crust, sauces, and toppings before it gets cooked in the oven in less than 10 minutes. After, you can add their special Hot Honey or “Zip Dust” to your pizza, or just enjoy it alone. If indecision is killing you in line, the menu comes with some premade recipes and seasonal options. The Buff Chick is a deep dish option with a buffalo sauce base and chicken. The March Crabness pizza (only available in March) has a creamy, crab rangoon base and is topped with crunchy bits and sweet and sour sauce.Cassie Miller, MSE
