Top 10 Extracurriculars Purdue Students Want You to Join Outside of Engineering

1. Purdue University Dance Marathon (PUDM):
The biggest student-run organization on campus! You can join as a dancer, where you get to fundraise leading up to the 18-hour long event or be even more involved and join a committee! Some of the committees include Riley Relations, where you fundraise to sponsor events for the Riley families throughout the year & are paired with a Riley family for the night of the event, Special Events Committee, where you organize 5K’s and other events around campus throughout the year, and so much more!

2. Boiler Gold Rush (BGR):
Whether it be as a new student, a team leader (TL), or even a Supervisor, there are so many ways to get involved with BGR! This week-long event is held the week before classes start in August. As a new student, it is your first chance to meet your new colleagues and participate in many games, fountain runs, and other fun activities throughout the week. It is also a great way to familiarize yourself with the campus and dining courts with the help of an upperclassman (your TL)!
In Boiler Gold Rush, incoming freshmen have the chance to explore campus with new friends
3. Greek Life:
With so many houses to choose from, there is a place for everyone in Greek life! The Greek community is where you can find strong friendships, academic and social support, and have a chance to develop leadership and interpersonal skills. A huge part of Greek life is philanthropy- each house supports at least one national organization and holds various events throughout the year to raise money for this organization. Events include talent shows, tug-of-war competitions, petting dogs, and more!

4. Intramural Sports:
Intramurals are a great way to play the sport(s) you love in a chill, low-stress environment. Sports that have teams include indoor/outdoor soccer, sand volleyball, flag football, basketball, softball, and more! You get to make teams with other clubs you’re involved with, your friends, or even your Greek house and compete against other teams each week. If you win the league, you even get a champion t-shirt and epic bragging rights!

Together, they participate in weekly after-school activities that are focused on higher education and careers, culture and diversity, community service, and of course, having fun! The organization allows both the college students and children to develop a mentoring relationship, and mentors specifically can gain leadership skills as positive role models in their communities.

7. Purdue Student Union Board (PSUB):
PSUB plans and organizes many events throughout the year to entertain and bring fun to Purdue students and the Greater Lafayette area! Some of the programs they have held in the past include Flicks at Fowler, which includes free showings of new movies on Friday and Saturday nights, Coffee and Canvas, Halloween Bingo, and more! Throughout the year, the organization holds fundraisers that raise money for individual trips to go overseas and build water wells. On these trips, you also get to teach the community how to use these water wells and maintain them for future use. It’s a great way to immerse yourself in other cultures and get a rewarding experience helping others!

10. Pet-a-Puppy Club:
In this club, you can raise money for shelters by holding various events, including bringing dogs to campus for students to pet and take pictures with for a donation!
