Resources for Engineers on Campus

Your first year as an engineering student will be an exciting journey that may seem challenging at times, but know that you're not alone - Purdue offers a variety of resources meant to help support your academic and personal success. The Purdue Academic Success Center offers a variety of different resources. The Women in Engineering Program also offers free tutoring for all first-year engineering classes! Beyond academic help, the Purdue College of Engineering CARES (Community, Assistance and Resources for Engineering Students) Hub offers resources to help support student mental health and well-being.

Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center offers a variety of academic support services for all Purdue students. Take a look at their website here

The following resources are available in both West Lafayette and Indianapolis:
  • Peer Success Coaching
    • The PSC program provides undergraduate students an opportunity to meet one-on-one with a trained coach to help you navigate the college environment and learn how to succeed academically, socially, and personally.
  • Study Skills Consultations
    • These consultations are individual sessions with professional staff that you can make by appointment. During these sessions, you can get help with specific topics relating to academic skills, study skills, and reaching academic-related goals. These appointments are very easy to schedule and I highly recommend taking advantage of this great resource.
The following resources are specific to Purdue in West Lafayette:
  • Supplemental Instruction
    • SI sessions are peer-led group study sessions and are offered for many engineering classes such as all calculus classes and popular first-year chemistry, physics, math, and coding classes. They are offered at a variety of times throughout the week and are a good idea to fit into your weekly schedule!
  • Accountability Groups
    • Accountability groups meet once a week and allow you to study and work on homework with other students. I have found this to be a super helpful resource that helped me get over my procrastination tendencies and have given me better productivity habits.
  • Workshops
    • There are a variety of workshops held throughout the year such as a Plan Your Successful Semester in the beginning of the semester, Pass Your Exams and Enhance Your Study Skills during midterm seasons, and Create Your Finals Game Plan near the end of the semester. These workshops are incredibly helpful, especially if you are a first year student and need some extra help adjusting to college life.
The following resources are specific to Purdue in Indianapolis:
  • Peer-Led Tutoring
    • These tutoring sessions pair you up with a tutor for an hour and are a great resource to get help with understanding your homework and work through challenging concepts one-on-one!

Women in Engineering Program Tutoring

The Purdue Women in Engineering program offers free tutoring services for first-year engineering classes!  They are held during the week in the evening and are a great resource if you find yourself needing help on your homework or studying for an exam. Our tutors are older students that have already taken the classes, so they have been in your shoes and know first-hand the best way to help you understand tough concepts! Find out more information here.

CARES Hub

The CARES (Community, Assistance and Resources for Engineering Students) Hub is a mental health resource made specifically for engineering students. This hub gives students a space to relax, connect with other engineering students, and get one-on-one mental wellbeing support.

This space is located in West Lafayette in the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering on the first floor (1261) and offers a multipurpose space, a peer mentoring space, a therapy space and an office space. I have found this to be an amazing resource to use for a quick motivational pep talk or if I need a 10 minute break between classes. Find more information here!

Resource Rooms

Resource rooms are extra help sessions that are offered for first and second-year math, chemistry, and biology classes. During these sessions, you can get one-on-one help from upper class tutors that have taken the classes before and are a great way to get help on your homework and studying for your exams. I remember doing my homework in these rooms when I was struggling with certain topics, and the tutors were extremely helpful in helping me understand and get my homework done! Resource Rooms are currently only offered in West Lafayette. More information on the different resource rooms can be found here!
