Weighing Your Options

Now that you have finished applying to colleges, it is about time that you will start hearing back from some of them! It is always so exciting to hear you got into a college. Deciding where to go to college can be difficult, but here are some things to think about that can hopefully make your decision a bit easier!

1. Academics: Going to college is all about getting a good education, so it is one of the most important factors to consider when deciding where to attend for the next four years!

Look into the how the program you’re interested stacks up against your other contenders. For instance, Purdue is one of the top-rated engineering schools in the United States, currently ranked 9th, according to U.S. News World Report. We also have the number one Agricultural and Biological Engineering program and are ranked 3rd in Industrial Engineering! Click the link below to learn more about the program you have in mind.

Opportunities related to academics are also important! Purdue offers a wide range of ways to get involved in undergraduate research and students can even act as teaching assistants for select classes.

2. Student Life: When determining where to go to college, it is important to think about how your time will be spent outside of going to class and completing your homework.

Comparing extracurricular opportunities and events available to students could help you get a good idea of what to expect your day-to-day life to look like as a student. Specifically, Purdue has over 1000 clubs and organizations that you could be a part of! Also, attending college at a Big Ten school has its perks when it comes to attending sporting events. There’s nothing like standing in the student section of Mackey Arena at a Purdue basketball game!

3. Residence Halls: Staying in a residence hall is typical for freshmen students at a good amount of universities across the nation.

Since this will be your home for at least the first year of college, do some research on what is important to you. Online, you can see pictures of what each residence hall looks like, or take a tour when on a visit to Purdue! Purdue has a variety of residence hall options for students, and our dining courts are top ranked for “best campus food” by the Princeton Review.
