Boiler Gold Rush: Your First Taste of Purdue!

Something that is unique to Purdue is our orientation program, Boiler Gold Rush. This week long acclimation to college and Purdue is filled with fun activities, meeting new people, and getting to know campus. However, Boiler Gold Rush is so much more than just an orientation. The entire program is centered on finding your place, having people you can count on, and getting comfortable at Purdue.

Before the week of BGR, you will find out who your team leader and hall team is. Your team leader is the person that will become your guide and friend while you learn all the amazing things that Purdue has to offer. You will spend the week with your hall team which consists of about 15 other new students in combination with a buddy hall team of another 15 or so students. Throughout the week, you will take part in games, info sessions, social activities, cheers and chants, and the Purdue traditions all the while being surrounded by your new friends. The days are full of activities to allow you the opportunity to be as busy or free as you'd like.

The best thing about BGR is always having something to do and people to meet up with. Having a program that offered this made my transition to Purdue exciting. I loved the program so much that during my Sophomore year, I applied to be a Team Leader for the next round of new students. The Team Leaders spend time starting in the spring to prepare positive bonding activities for their team. The goal of the Team Leaders is to become your good friend and mentor as you transition to this new exciting time in your life. In comparison to most other universities, this program stands out as an involved experience that makes students feel at home at Purdue. Every year brings the same excitement of welcoming our new students!
