Purdue's Community - What It's Like Living on Campus
Purdue might look a little different right now but something that is as alive as ever is the community on campus. While never required, 95% of freshman choose to live on campus and many upperclassmen as well. Purdue will become your home away from home and there is so much to be involved in. Here is some of the things you will enjoy as a student living our residence halls!
A Welcoming Community:
Whether you are coming to Purdue with your best friends from high school or without knowing anyone, you will quickly meet many of the people on your floor and begin to make Purdue feel like home. Many students leave their doors open and say hello in the hallway. Every floor has a Resident Assistant (RA) who plans many events for the whole floor to get to know each other and each hall also has its own club associated with planning events for everyone. Some of my favorites, movie and game nights, ice skating and a winter dance!Resources for Success:
Every residence hall is designed to be a hub for residences to succeed academically. You will find study lounges and printers in every building and many have on site computer labs for students to work in. Open spaces, large white boards and TVs that will connect to any laptop also encourage collaboration and working in teams on problems or to practice group presentations.A Place to Hang Out:
Being a student on campus is not just about working hard and succeeding in your classes, it’s about making the most of your four years here. A laundry room and kitchenette for every residence hall available for students to use is only the start of the amenities. Each hall has something unique from their own mini movie theater, game rooms that include billiards, ping pong or air hockey, TVs and video game consoles, board games and cards and even small scale gyms.Learning Communities:
Learning communities bring together students of similar interests of backgrounds to all live together on the same floor or in the same building. Students will have classes together and have the opportunity to make Purdue’s big campus feel small. We even have a Women in Engineering Learning Community in the brand new Meredith South residence hall built just last year.Julianna Hachenski, Industrial Engineering
