At the beginning of a semester, I always think it’s important to reflect on why you chose your major, and what you want from your career as an engineer.  I had the opportunity to attend the 2017 SWE National Conference, and here’s some of what I learned that is helpful to keep in mind to start the semester off on the right foot.  Attending the SWE conference was a tremendous opportunity to be inspired, network, and most of all: learn. 1. Find Value in Feedback As humans, it's hard for us to truly know how we are perceived by others. Being open to and thoughtful of feedback will help you to project your best intentions. Getting to know professors in office hours is a great way to create an opportunity to ask for feedback from an expert in the field. 2. Act with Grit Engineering is tough! Problem-solving is fun most of the time, but it can also be frustrating. When something gets tough, allow yourself to struggle, but persist until you finish what you started. a
