Engineering Your Dreams

Image
When choosing the right school for you, think about how it will help you build the future you want! Every engineering project starts with a plan, a blueprint, and your college journey should too. Purdue provides you with all the tools to engineer your dreams. You just have to plan them out, design your journey, and start building! Here are some resources to help you learn how Purdue can be the perfect place to bring your blueprint to life. Engineering Pathway First off, we have to lay the foundation. Purdue offers different pathways into an engineering degree. At our West Lafayette location, the First-Year Engineering (FYE) Program allows you to spend your first year in general engineering classes and explore the different fields before choosing your major at the end of the academic year. Whether you do or don’t know which engineering field you want to get into, the FYE program can be just the right place for you and can help immerse you into the world of engineering basics and differe...

Engineering Digest: Living and Learning in a Community

Image
At Purdue, there are so many new people, activities, and opportunities available. Finding your community can take time, but one great way to start building it before you arrive on campus is by joining a Learning Community! While there are many options for Learning Communities like Data Mine, Women in Engineering, and EPICS, I can speak best on Engineering in the World of Data (EWD).      One thing that makes EWD stand out is that you will take several classes with the same group of students in your Learning Community throughout your freshman year. This is not always the case in other Learning Communities. For example, while all first-year engineering students take ENGR 131 and ENGR 132, they’re usually with a different set of classmates in each course. In EWD, you will be with the same group in both, which helps you build deer connections and friendships that can last well beyond the first year.      Additionally, you will take two extra...

My Learning Communities (WiE and EPICS)

Image
As a current freshman, I was nervous to come to Purdue because I did not know anyone else here and was nervous for the transition from high school to college. However, I easily became familiar with the campus, made meaningful friends, and found Purdue as my home away from home. This is because of the two Learning Communities (LC) I am in: Women in Engineering (WiE) and Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS). Women in Engineering (WiE) Learning Community: The WiE LC is just one of many different ways to be involved in the WiE Program! Some LC's are optional to live in a specified residence hall, but the WiE LC requires that you live in the specified residence hall. If you choose not to join the WiE LC, there are still many other ways to get involved in the WiE Program. Or if you are in a LC that does not require to live in a specific dorm, you still are given many opportunities to get very involved and find your community. The Women in Engineering Program has helped me gr...

Thankful to be a Boilermaker

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to pause and reflect on the many blessings in our lives. Being a student at Purdue University, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunities, experiences, and communities that have made my time here so far unforgettable. Here are just a few of the things that make Purdue so special and why I’m so thankful to call this place home. Learning Communities Starting college can be overwhelming, but Purdue’s learning communities make the transition so much easier. These groups connect students who share similar academic interests or hobbies, creating friendships and collaboration from the very beginning. Joining this helped me find my first circle of friends providing a sense of community when everything else felt so new. In the Women in Engineering Learning Community, I found a support system of peers who shared my passions and challenges. Having these connections gave me the confidence to get through my first year. Along with this, I had the opportunit...
