Ever Grateful.... What We Are Thankful for this Thanksgiving Season

Image
It has been a crazy couple of years, to say the least. Things have not entirely gotten back to the way they used to be, but there are still so many great things to be thankful for this holiday season. So, with Thanksgiving coming this Thursday, we wanted to share with you the things we are thankful for as Boilermakers this year. 1. We are thankful for in-person sports! College game-days are such a fun and exciting part of the college experience, and going to a Big 10 school such as Purdue means a unique and exciting atmosphere on game days. This year, all sporting events are live and in person once again, and we get to experience being fans in the stands. Kendall Dewey (CEM ‘24) says this is what she is thankful for this year because, “...football and basketball games were one of the top things I was looking forward to as a student. It is so crazy how last year we weren’t even allowed to watch in-person, and this year we got to rush the field after winning the football game against Mic

Why I'm Grateful I Chose Purdue!

There are so many different aspects that factor into your college decision. Choosing your new home away from home can be incredibly involved, but the factor I found to truly highlight colleges was hearing directly from the students. As the end of the year approaches, this time is great for reflection and expressing thanks. Below are some of the reasons I’m so grateful I chose to attend Purdue. I hope my experiences help give you a window into being a Purdue engineering student and provide some more context for your college decision. Maymester study abroad in Italy! Purdue’s First-Year Engineering Program                Whether you know which type of engineering you want to study or if you have no clue but want to learn more about the different types, Purdue’s First-Year Engineering Program (FYE) is built for you. During your first year, you can attend information sessions from any of Purdue’s Engineering schools. Another large component of our FYE Program is teamwork; you will h

What is GEARE?

Image
GEARE stands for Global Engineering Alliance for Research and Education. But what exactly does that mean? GEARE is different from any other traditional study abroad programs simply because it is not just a study abroad program. At Purdue, GEARE is a great, comprehensive and unique program consisting of study and work abroad/internships, foreign language proficiency, cultural training and global design projects. I have known about the GEARE program even before becoming a student at Purdue University. The GEARE program immediately captured my attention. I was fascinated by how it allows for a holistic development of an engineering student. In fact, one of the main reasons why I ended up choosing Purdue was the GEARE program. Application You can apply either as a FYE student around February or as a sophomore in September. You should be notified of the result of your application within a month of the deadline. The application consists of a resume, your transcript and an essay. In the essay

The International Student Experience

Image
Hi! I am Shruti, a sophomore in chemical engineering and an international student at Purdue. I am here to tell you a bit about my life here and also some tips you may need as an international student. I talked to some of my international friends and made a list which I hope would help international students like you! Culture differences All my life, I have lived in India and Hong Kong. When I first visited the United States, I was a little surprised to see that the serving size of food was much bigger than I expected. The side salad was something I could have eaten as my main dish. Generally speaking, the food was also a lot more cheesy and sweet than what I was used to but it was pretty tasty.  One more thing which could be confusing is the bus system. I am not sure if the bus systems where you live are the same as Purdue but I am used to buses stopping at every stop, being extremely frequent and being punctual. That is not the case at Purdue. The buses can be slightly delayed and fre

How to Stay Motivated During the Mid-Semester

Image
As the end of the semester quickly approaches and final exams start getting closer, many of us may find it difficult to continue with the same level of enthusiasm we showed during the beginning of the semester. This feeling is totally normal! The stress of having more deadlines and projects to complete may get to us, but it’s important to remember to take a deep breath and remain positive and optimistic about the weeks we have ahead. The good thing is, there are so many ways to stay motivated and keep stress low! As engineers, we are becoming comfortable with constantly being kept on our toes and are learning how to make the most of the time we have in order to be efficient and productive. At the same time, we have to learn how to take a step back and focus on ourselves when necessary! Here are some ways to remain motivated throughout the semester!
