Engineering In and Out of the Classroom

Image
Purdue’s engineering community is like no other and there are so many opportunities for students to become the best engineer they can be while pursuing what they are passionate about. Engineering is about so much more than just the material taught in class and to celebrate National Engineers Week, here are a few examples of how students showcase their engineering skills in and outside of the classroom!  My first year engineering team with our Mars Rover Prototype, "Rob" (Fall 2019)   Student Project Teams:      One of the largest classifications of student organizations on campus are those that bring students together to work on a design project. These teams and organizations are entirely student run allowing participants to get hands on experience in whatever field interests them. Every group is open to all majors and each has different goals with the Purdue Space Program’s rocket designs and the autonomous robot groups Earth, Mars and Lunar...

Why Purdue?: My College Fairytale

Image
Since I was a little girl, the college I was going to go to was the closest thing to a fairy tale I had. Upon inspection, the two hold several similarities: they happen in far away, mystical lands, the main character has a plethora of people working behind the scenes for them, they’re glorified, and everyone loves them. Obviously, one involves prince charming and singing, dancing inanimate objects; but, upon oversight of these minor details, Cinderella and higher education might as well be two pages of the same book. Like any girl looking ahead to my lifelong college fantasy, I was restless and excited. My school needed to be nothing short of perfect. As I grew older, my wild imagination became replaced with a drive for success. College was no longer a place where I wanted to frolic around singing and dancing, it was a place to gain tools to success: academically, socially, and personally. The amount of options in front of me were daunting, and...

Top 5 Spots on Campus

Image
Purdue is home to many unique study spots, outdoor areas, restaurants, and more that students love to spend time at! We asked our WE Link volunteers to rank their top five favorite spots on campus, and compiled the results below. Check it out, and reach out if you have any questions about any of these awesome locations. WE Link volunteer Hana Wong on campus by the iconic Bell Tower. 1. Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC) WALC, which finished construction in August 2017, is home to many classrooms and collaborative workspaces for students to enjoy. It ranked among most all volunteers top 5 spots on campus, many being the number one spot. Carly McKean specifically enjoys the reading room on the second floor because it is "the perfect place to study away from distractions." Other volunteers love the atmosphere and expansive windows that come together to provide an awesome environment to get work done.  2. CoRec (France A. Cordova Recreational Sport...

Top 5 Reasons I Love Purdue

Image
With Valentine’s day quickly approaching, it's the perfect time to express our love and gratitude for the people and things we care about in our lives. For me, one of the things I am grateful for is Purdue University and all the doors it has opened for me. Let me tell you my top 5 reasons I love Purdue!        I love walking around the beautiful campus!     5. Hands-On Experience      Purdue has provided me with numerous opportunities to get hands-on experience in projects, labs, and more. I had the chance to work on design projects starting my first semester through the Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) program. Since then, I have had design labs every semester in Biomedical Engineering that have given me the opportunity to learn new techniques and perform experiments that I wouldn't have learned from a classroom environment.         4.  Huge Alumni Network      Throughout the ye...
