The Purdue Experience Illustrated by Current Students

At a volunteer night, current students were asked to list what words came to mind when provided with the following topics. "Word Art" or "Word Clouds" are a fun illustration of those words that allow us to share their responses and give you a peek into the engineering experience here at Purdue!

Campus Activities
Students often enjoy watching the various Purdue sports teams represent our school in the Big 10.
Students also enjoy other aspects of Purdue's campus such as the ChillZone, with Adirondack chairs and fire pits, as well as extracurricular activities such as intramural sports, Greek life, and the 1000+ student organizations and clubs. Additionally, the nearby Chauncey area has many shops and restaurants for students to enjoy!

Engineering
When it comes to academics, engineering students get exposure to problem-solving, coding, teamwork, and other opportunities. The words below also share some of the soft skills that come along with gaining an engineering degree at Purdue and the many engineering-related programs here.

First-Year Engineering (FYE)
One unique feature of Purdue Engineering is the First-Year Engineering Program, which is the launchpad for all engineering students. The FYE Program fosters a strong foundation, problem- solving and teamwork skills. Additionally, students have the opportunity to explore the many engineering disciplines (i.e. civil, mechanical, biomedical, etc.) during their first year. The words below encompass some of the programs, classes, projects, and skills learned as a part of FYE.

WIEP
The volunteers involved in WE Link shared that they find a sense of friendship and a growing network through the Women in Engineering Program and specifically WE Link. WIEP provides many of the opportunities listed below to those who attend Purdue such as our Mentees & Mentor Program (M&M), free tutoring, access alum events, seminar classes, and outreach.

College Things
Besides the incredible academics on Purdue’s campus, there is so much more to the full Purdue Experience. From living in the dorms and eating in the dining courts to the Purdue community, our volunteers explain everything college!

First Week of Classes
Attending your first week of college classes causes a huge mix of emotions and for many students is a huge time of growth. Our volunteers used the words below to describe how they felt during their first week on campus.

Purdue Traditions
We have many traditions at Purdue such as going on fountain runs through the many fountains on academic campus, sledding down Slayter Hill when it snows, and the many sports game-time traditions! In addition to our many traditions, we have some superstitions like how walking under the bell tower will cause you to not graduate in four years. The words below describe these and many more traditions!
