How to Make the Most of Your Visit to Purdue
It is that time of year when students tour the colleges they are interested in. When visiting Purdue for the day, there are many things you can do to fully capture what campus life is like and what Purdue engineering is all about. Here are some recommendations to make the most of your time in West Lafayette.
A visit to Purdue is a great way to experience the university firsthand. From touring the engineering buildings and exploring campus landmarks to trying out local food spots and attending prospective student events, there are plenty of ways to get a feel for life as a Boilermaker.
Check Out the Engineering Buildings
There are numerous engineering buildings on Purdue's campus. During my time at Purdue, I have had classes in almost all of them. These buildings serve as common gathering spots for engineering students and provide valuable resources and study spaces. Even if you never have a class in these buildings, you can find many resources for engineers and study spots there.Dudley Hall
I strongly recommend visiting Dudley Hall. This building houses Purdue’s First-Year Engineering Program (FYE). First-year students take their introductory engineering courses and meet with their advisors here. Dudley Hall is also home to the Office of Future Engineers, an excellent resource for prospective engineering students. You can also find the Women in Engineering Program in Dudley Hall, Room 2516. Staff members are available during weekday working hours to answer any questions about being a woman in engineering at Purdue.Explore the Rest of Purdue’s Campus
Purdue is a beautiful campus with many notable landmarks. To immerse yourself in campus life, I recommend exploring the Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC), the Purdue Memorial Union, the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center, and walking down Third Street. Iconic Purdue landmarks include the Engineering Fountain, the Purdue Arch, the Bell Tower, and the Neil Armstrong Footprints by Armstrong Hall of Engineering. You can use the Purdue Campus Map to navigate and discover more of Purdue’s campus.Food Recommendations
There are plenty of food options both on and around Purdue’s campus. If you want to experience on-campus dining, Purdue has five main dining courts that guests can pay to enter. I suggest visiting the basement of the Purdue Memorial Union, which offers a variety of food options. Additionally, there are many popular retail options on campus, such as Chick-fil-A, Jimmy John’s, Panera, Qdoba, and more. If you are looking to explore off-campus dining, my personal favorites are Triple X, Nine Irish Brothers, Another Broken Egg, AJ’s, and Nom Noms.Prospective Student Opportunities
Purdue offers many programs designed to introduce prospective students to life at Purdue. For example, Purdue hosts “Purdue for Me Days,” designed to welcome admitted students and provide a glimpse into university life.
