How to Dream Big as an Engineer: National Engineers Week
National Engineers Week is a week that is devoted to
celebrating engineers and all of the awesome things that engineers have
accomplished. All around the country, colleges
and universities celebrated Engineers Week with various activities throughout
the week. Purdue celebrates National
Engineers Week a little later in the year, usually in March or April; that’s ok
though because that just means engineers at Purdue get to have two weeks
devoted to them!
This year National Engineers was from February 19th- February 25th. This year the theme for National Engineers was “Dream Big”. To celebrate this theme, National Engineers Week is promoted a new film, Dream Big, that showcases the impact that engineering has had on the world and our lives. I think that the theme was an excellent choice, because as engineers the sky is our limit and we really can dream big. With a degree from Purdue University, you will have the skills and talents to really create some amazing things that will change our world for the better. And at Purdue, you can start dreaming big even before you graduate. There are so many awesome opportunities for undergrads at Purdue to dream big and start changing the world early on in their engineering career. Check them out below!

Engineering Projects In Community Service (EPICS)
EPICS is
a great way for students at Purdue to get hands on experience on engineering projects, while also serving to
better the community. EPICS offers many
different projects that aim to help a variety of different projects, both
locally and internationally. Check out
the link below to see some of the EPCIS teams and the projects they’ve worked
on: https://engineering.purdue.edu/EPICS
Engineer Without Borders
Engineers Without Borders is a
group at Purdue that works on projects with communities around the world in
order to help them meet their basic human needs and provide them with pathways
to new opportunities. Currently, the
Engineers Without Borders group at Purdue is working on water and biogas
projects in Uganda. Check out the link
below to see how their impacting the world: https://epics.ecn.purdue.edu/ewb/about.html
Purdue Timmy Global Health
Purdue Timmy Global Health is a
group at Purdue that aims to promote public health, serve the underprivileged
and provide medical services to underserved communities. In addition to doing projects in the West
Lafayette Community, Purdue Timmy Global Health has also participated in
medical services projects in Ecuador.

The groups listed above are just a few ways that students at
Purdue are dreaming big. There are so
many more groups and clubs at Purdue that allow students to use their talents
and impact the world. In addition, there
are also many classes at Purdue that encourage students to dream big and create
amazing things, such as a toy design class in mechanical engineering, senior design,
and my urban water design class that I took last spring (check out urban water
design class here) to name a few.
