Residential Life Series: Mosaic Mile & District of Tradition

The Mosaic Mile neighborhood consists of Hillenbrand, First Street Towers, and Hawkins.  The District of Tradition neighborhood consists of Wiley, Owen, Cary Quad, and Tarkington Residence Halls.

Mosaic Mile

First Street Towers

First Street Towers is primarily an upperclassman dorm. The units are single rooms with attached private bathrooms. Each floor features a convenient lounge area as well as a coffee bar and microwave. There is laundry room on every floor. The lobby is full of places to study, ping-pong tables, billiard tables, and a kitchenette. There is also a music room. First Street Towers is conveniently located just across the street from the Earhart dining court, but it is a longer walk to the northern portion of campus from First Street Towers than it is from other residence halls.

Hillenbrand

Hillenbrand Hall is primarily an upperclassmen dorm consisting of semi-suite style rooms. Similar to Third Street Suites, a semi-suite has two double rooms with a connected bathroom, but no common area between the rooms. Additionally, each floor has a kitchenette and lounge area. Hillenbrand Hall also has the dining court downstairs and a workout room and practice room in the basement.

This is an example of a two-room suite in Hillenbrand with four people living there.

District of Tradition

Wiley

Wiley is a co-ed dorm that is shaped like most other dorms on campus. In the center of the first floor, there is a modern lobby with many study tables, lounge chairs, and space to sit with friends or to study. In the basement, there is an old diner that has transformed its booths into even more tables to do work or talk with friends. Down the basement hall is a nice lounge area with TVs and pool tables to hang out with friends. Across from that is Wiley’s very own music room that can be used at one’s leisure. An advantage of living in Wiley is its location. Wiley dining court is right by the south entrance. Also, it is just a few steps from the recreational center and from the Krach study center. Although Wiley does not have air conditioning, it is modern in other aspects. There are nice individual guest bathrooms on each floor to accommodate guests.

Owen

Owen is the compliment to Wiley as the other co-ed dorm in Mosaic Mile made up of doubles, much like those in Legacy Lane. To make up for a lack of AC, it is conveniently close to both Wiley and Ford Dining Courts, with shared spaces on the first and second floors. The first floor includes a common study area with whiteboards as well as a quiet study room and a printing station. It also has laundry, a kitchenette, an open lounge, and a private lounge. The second floor is more recreational, with a large lounge and an activity room, with pool, foosball, movies, and board games available for rent from the front desk. The RAs at Owen also do their part to keep things interesting by often organizing opportunities to cook a meal, watch a movie, or have a game night together.
