5 Ways to Cut the Cost of College
Between tuition, room & board, and books, figuring out
how to afford a college education can feel like trying to jump through
hoops. Luckily, Purdue WIEP has advice
to help you get your feet off the ground!

1. Look for Value—Consider student debt and alumni salaries
when looking at colleges. For example,
Purdue was included in Princeton Review’s Top 200 “best value” colleges because
of Purdue’s commitment to “affordability, accountability, and quality” (President
Mitch Daniels).
2. Brag Away—When applying for scholarships, make sure to
include all of your passions and accomplishments. Now’s the time to show the scholarship committee
why you deserve that award!
3. Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop—Continue applying for scholarships
after you get to school. Many
scholarships are available for current undergraduate students, and you can see
some that Purdue has to offer on their
Scholarship page.
4. File the FAFSA—Make sure to complete the FAFSA for
need-based aid by your school’s priority deadline—Purdue’s is March 1. Here are some helpful directions.
5. Consider a Co-Op—Alternating between work and school
helps students to gain valuable experience while earning money they can put
towards their degree if they so choose.

Keeping this advice in mind will help give you the tools you
need to minimize your cost and maximize the quality of your education.
