Favorite advice from college:
Do what you love. Professor Douglas was told that if there are classes that you do not like, look at why you don’t like it. And if you don’t like it because of the content, then you shouldn’t pursue it.
Favorite aspect of her job:
Getting to work with students and see when they figure out new things. Teaching an introductory course allows her to see students as they grow and get their first glimpse into engineering and the thought process that goes with it.

What are you passionate about?
Workwise-related to help people have good education opportunities
What advice do you have for female engineers? It can be in regards to being a female, engineering, school, finding a job, life, etc.
Be comfortable with your feelings and instincts. If you feel like you might be treated differently, build your self awareness of when it might be good to have a friend help process your experience. Find good friends
What kinds of research are you involved with?
Developing a sensor based tool kit. Bio data, is the heart racing with stress and anxiety in class.
Issues in education- Research with online courses for professional engineers. Measuring critical thinking and other skills that engineers need to make them learn better.
How do you use engineering principles for your job?
Design Principles are used often in research. Problem Scoping with her projects. What kinds of problems does she want to solve. Understanding the professional engineers to inform better design educational products for them
What was the best advice you received when you were a college student?
Do what you love
If you hate your classes, you should listen to it. What specifically don’t you like about that class? Is it the professor, or the content?
What's your favorite aspect of your job?
Working with students and see when they figure out new things. Seeing them grow and develop. Teaching engineering 131 allows her to see first times that students are introduced to the world of engineering thinking.What do you do in your free time? Both involving and not involving engineering
Family with 4 kids being a mom. Transporting her kids to practices and meets.
What's your favorite memory involving engineering?
Transfer student didn’t want to go backwards to transfer to purdue engineering...But one student said he was glad to get to work with a group. He appreciated the basics.
Showed the president of Kimberly-Clark and show students work and the president was impressed by her students critical thinking and the way that they approached problems. She got to brag about her students.
What daily challenges do you face with your job? Like what type of problems do you have to solve?
Choosing what to do and how to spend your time. Being a professor is a very ill defined job. They do the class work and grad students
