Finding Your Home at Purdue

Finding Your Home at Purdue

If you’ve decided where you’re going to college, now comes the fun part: moving in! The period of transitioning into college is really important in feeling at home in your new home. Here are some things to consider when putting together your new life at college:

Orientation (Boiler Gold Rush)

BGR is the introductory week for all of Purdue’s incoming freshmen. It is a whole week of fun: social events, resource fairs, interest sessions, group activities, and games! It’s basically college without the classes to help acquaint new students with campus, but also to teach them about campus traditions, Purdue culture, and University resources. Most importantly, Boiler Gold Rush is a great way to lasting make friendships right when you get to campus.

Extracurriculars

Clubs and student organizations are another big part of student life at Purdue, and definitely a great way to expand your social circle and meet new people. There are clubs about the arts, for sports, to help your community, and even to build robots for competitions. Purdue actually has over 1,000 clubs, and you can scroll through them all here! https://boilerlink.purdue.edu/Organizations

Learning Communities

Learning communities are spaces for people with similar interests and passions to live in a community together. Just like with clubs, Purdue has a whole page of LC’s for students to choose between: https://www.purdue.edu/learningcommunities/profiles/index.html They are also a space to connect with faculty in your areas of interest, and a way to have friends inside and outside of classes. Many of them also provide links to University resources, outside of all the friends you’ll have as resources anyways!

As you can see, Purdue offers an array of ways to feel more at home once you move in. Even more ways include Greek life, the cultural centers, the different dorms and each of their ‘personalities’, and athletics. But, if you have any questions about the opportunities available on campus, feel free to tweet us @PurdueWIEP or DM us a the links below!
