6 Fun, Socially Distant Things to do on Campus!
This academic year at Purdue University is definitely different. We have all made a lot of sacrifices this semester to ensure our safety as well as the safety of those around us. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t have a fun time and make the most out of our time on campus. Our wonderful campus still has a lot to offer. So, if you are approved to be on campus this semester or plan to join us in the future, here are some fun, socially-distant activities that you can partake in on campus!
1. Movie nights at Ross-Ade stadium
We have some amazing organizations on campus that host incredibly fun events year round at Purdue that all students are welcome to attend to de-stress and meet new people. Namely, the Purdue Student Union Board organizes events like open mic nights, movie nights, murder mystery dinners and more. Fortunately, they have not allowed COVID-19 to stop them from organizing some of those great events. Currently, they have been having weekly movie nights at Ross-Ade stadium where there is plenty of space to maintain 6 feet of distance from others.
2. Hammocking
3. Hiking
Purdue is also surrounded by some really great nature spots that are definitely worth exploring. For a breath of fresh air, Happy Hollow Park and Celery Bog Nature Area are only a short walk from campus and great places to go for refreshing hikes. So grab some friends and a mask and check out these quiet, hidden sights.
4. Frisbee Golf
Another fun way to get outside and stay active while also following Protect Purdue rules, is to play Frisbee Golf. Purdue campus has an actual Frisbee Golf course on Slayter Hill with 9 holes. With its big fields and trees, Slayter Hill is a great, safe place to be on a sunny day.
5. Food Trucks
Purdue gives us plenty of options of where to go to eat, and they just keep adding more! Recently, Purdue dining introduced food trucks to campus. They are located right behind the new Chaney-Hale Hall of Science on the corner of the engineering fountain. There’s a fun group of food trucks that range from Famous Franks to Greek food. So go grab some lunch in the open air and make sure to social distance.
6. Go to callouts, join clubs and find your community!
Having to adapt to our mostly virtual environment can be difficult at times, but it does not at all mean that we have to miss out on opportunities to join clubs where we can find our community and have fun. The semester has just started and there are hundreds of clubs out there for you to explore. Check out BoilerLink to see what you are interested in and attend their callouts to find out if they are a good fit for you. Going to a callout is even easier when it’s virtual because all it takes is the click of a button! There are plenty of ways to still get involved and make the most out of this semester. If you have any questions or want to learn more about getting involved with WIEP or other communities, reach out to us via email or social media(found below)!
