Purdue Football is Back! Fall Game Day Highlights

As a Big Ten School with multiple Division 1 sports teams the atmosphere surrounding Purdue athletics is an exciting, always changing environment that brings together the Purdue community. This past week Purdue Football faced off with the Iowa Hawkeyes and with an exciting ending and last minute touchdown, Purdue stole the win. Athletics may be a little different this year with no fans in the stadium but there is nothing like the feeling of spending the game with friends on the edge of your seat. Here are a few things students love about game day:

The Boilermaker Special:

The Boilermaker Special is Purdue’s official mascot, a highway ready train engine, it is driven by students involved with the Reamer Club on campus. You can find the Special on campus any day but bright and early the mornings of games you will not be able to miss it. Playing the Purdue fight song and the iconic train whistle, it is hard not to feel campus come alive.

The All-American Marching Band:

Purdue’s Marching Band is one of the most well-known icons of game day, lead by the World’s Largest Bass Drum the marching band not only plays amazing music but gives astonishing performances. From the color guard and twirling team to the detailed marching patterns made by the band (including the shape of the Boilermaker special that spans the whole football field) the pregame and halftime shows by the band are not to miss!

Ross-Ade Brigade and the Stadium Atmosphere:

Individual and Season student tickets are available for every game and it is no surprise so many students choose to attend in Ross-Ade Stadium in typical years. Surrounded by thousands of other students all cheering on the Boilermakers is a feeling of community unlike anything else. Bring your keys to jingle before every key kickoff, your dancing shoes for cheers led by our cheerleading and dance teams and a strong voice for Purdue’s chants and of course to sing along to the fight song. The feeling is electric and is what leaves you excited for the next weekend.

Watch Parties:

Even when Purdue plays away at another University, or this year when fans are not able to join the teams in the stadium, watch parties are everywhere. Run by many student organizations on campus you can always join in on one of Purdue large lawns for some free food and team spirit. Or, get together with friends and cheer on Purdue together. Every TV on campus has access to the game and every residence hall has lounge space for students to use. No matter where you are or where Purdue is playing, you can always enjoy the game!
