Top 5 Spots on Campus

Purdue is home to many unique study spots, outdoor areas, restaurants, and more that students love to spend time at! We asked our WE Link volunteers to rank their top five favorite spots on campus, and compiled the results below. Check it out, and reach out if you have any questions about any of these awesome locations.

1. Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC)

WALC, which finished construction in August 2017, is home to many classrooms and collaborative workspaces for students to enjoy. It ranked among most all volunteers top 5 spots on campus, many being the number one spot. Carly McKean specifically enjoys the reading room on the second floor because it is "the perfect place to study away from distractions." Other volunteers love the atmosphere and expansive windows that come together to provide an awesome environment to get work done.

2. CoRec (France A. Cordova Recreational Sports Center)

Another top contender for many volunteers is Purdue's gym/fitness center, the CoRec. The CoRec is home to over 10 gyms, almost 50,000 square feet of fitness and lifting space, a rock climbing wall, and a few pools (to name a few). From guided fitness classes to intramural sports, there is truly something for everyone to do here! The CoRec is also centrally located by the dorms, and Ariana Scott quotes it as "a great place to relieve stress and start my day off right!" You can find out more about the CoRec here.

3. The Engineering Mall

The Engineering Mall is a main strip on Purdue's academic campus between the Engineering Fountain and the "Gateway to the Future" arch. Many engineering buildings are on this strip, from Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering, Forney Hall of Chemical Engineering, and Hampton Hall of Civil Engineering. Ally Garrard loves the engineering fountain when it's warm out because she can sit in the grass surrounding the fountain, relax, and do homework or enjoy lunch.

4. John W. Hicks (HICKS) Undergraduate Library

Another popular place to study is HICKS, a large underground library that hosts a cafe, many public computers, and collaborative study rooms. Students such as Hana Wong love it because "it has a great atmosphere, is close to Chauncey mall, has an ITAP help desk, and is very quiet, which is great for studying!"

5. Krach Leadership Center & Lawn

Finally, a popular place for students to get together and study or hangout is Krach. This building is conveniently located on residential campus next to Third Street Starbucks, and has modern architecture which allows a lot of natural light. It's a popular place for First Year Engineering students to meet and work with their teams! Krach also has a large lawn that constantly has activities taking place or students eating at in the warmer weather.

These are just a few of our volunteers favorite spots on campus. Be sure to visit campus to experience more, such as the Discount Den (a popular place for students to get a pop and Purdue merchandise), or the clapping circle (an outdoor space near the union that is popular for hammocks)!
