Here comes the Sun! : Summer at Purdue
One of my favorite aspects of Purdue is the beautiful campus. Rain or shine, the beauty of the brick buildings and vast green lawns always stands out. However, I am particularly biased towards summer time at Purdue when the trees and flowers are in full bloom, all of the fountains are turned on and students are happily galivanting around campus. If this sounds as amazing to you as it does to me, then you might want to know more about the opportunities that Purdue offers to extend your college experience into the summertime and enhance your academic career.

Take Summer Courses
Purdue offers over 650 over the summer and has plenty of options for the timeframe you can take those courses within. The flexibility of the summer courses is great for pursuing other academic or professional opportunities while also finding some time to do extra learning. Summer classes are beneficial for helping students stay on track to reaching their degree and even getting ahead so that they can pursue other experiential learning opportunities (internships, co-ops etc.), minors or certificates during their time at Purdue. There are also hundreds of online options if that is more suitable for the student. To learn more about the summer courses offered at Purdue and when they can be taken, check out this link.
Do Research
If you are interested in putting all of the concepts and skills you learned in your courses to use through an experiential learning opportunity, you might want to pursue undergraduate research at the university. The professors at Purdue are incredibly welcoming to students who are interested in their work and want to join their labs for research. However, Purdue has programs for students interested in research to make it even easier to find the right research topic and mentor for you. Namely, the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) is a program students can apply to early in the spring semester. It is a 10-week research experience and students can choose to apply to a variety of research topics.
Start your College Experience Early
The idea of coming to college for the first time brings a lot of emotions with it! It is exciting and scary and nerve-wracking. Luckily, Purdue has the perfect program for incoming students to ease all of these feelings: Early Start! Early starts gives students the opportunity to get acclimated on campus early, bask in the wonderful summer weather, meet the fellow peers they will be spending the next four years with and have a relaxed, early start on their coursework. The program is very flexible for online and in-person students and participating in the program benefits the student throughout their college careers. As soon as students have accepted their offer of admission from the university, they have the option of choosing to switch to an early start. Learn more about this program here.
